On Behalf
of the people of the Eastern province we at KFSH-D are building a world-class
highly specialized tertiary healthcare service that will transform KFSH-D into a
recognized
Center of Excellence
in the region. We are guided by our
Mission
, Vision
and Values. To meet the recognized specialty healthcare needs of the region KFSH-D
has identified four critical subspecialty areas. These Four core competencies are
Oncology, Multi-organ Transplant, Neurosciences and Metabolic & Genetic Diseases.
Today hundreds of patients are on dialysis without the prospect of receiving a life
saving kidney transplant. KFSH-D’s growing and successful renal transplant program
has completed 15 transplants to date and is beginning to address this urgent need.
Also, we recognize that the
Eastern
Province
shares with
Riyadh Province
the highest
incidence of cancer in the Kingdom. We see this reflected in the growth of our oncology
clinics and in needed medical referrals outside the
Eastern Province
. We are moving
forward as well in the design of our new neurosurgical operating rooms that will
support our Neuroscience services. Our future growth will ensure diagnosis and treatment
will be administered locally and at the highest standards.
In order to transform
our services to deliver 21st century tertiary healthcare the Kingdom has invested
in the upgrade and renovation of our aging facility to meet these goals. Designed
in 1981 and then left unutilized for 24 years, our hospital does not meet current
building codes or safety standards for modern healthcare facilities , nor does it’s
layout permit efficient work flow patterns expected of the best specialist hospitals
built today. The initial upgrades are underway as seen in the recent replacement
of the old outdated HVAC system, which will, in addition provide critically needed
positive pressure environments for selected immunocompromised patients. Collaboration
and cooperation with internationally recognized North American medical and research
institutions will permit us to achieve levels of performance at KFSH-D at the state-of-the-art.
Our commitment towards excellence begins with our commitment to meet or exceed internationally
recognized healthcare standards. KFSH-D has recently received accreditation status
by Joint Commission International (JCI). Additionally,
we will obtain the College of American Pathologists (CAP), American National Standards
Institute (ANSI), and American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) certifications
demonstrating that we operate at highest internationally recognized standards.
In
support of our transformation an ambitious building project is underway to construct
the required support facilities during this business plan. These facilities coupled
with our highly trained and dedicated staff will provide our patients and their
families with healthcare the Kingdom can be justifiably proud of.
